One of my friends described it as having a Hamptons vibe, while another likened it to Miami with its abundance of tropical plants and palm trees. Another suggested that it could also be similar to Newport Beach.
Summer House on the Lake, a wealthy coastal community, has a striking resemblance to a particular place, but it successfully provides patrons with an escape from the chaos of Disney Springs. This was greatly appreciated by my husband and I. Despite the bright “YES” sign above our booth, our relaxed state was not disrupted. Surprisingly, we could not resist any of our server’s recommendations, including the irresistible cheesy dream puffs that she suggested we try. Of course we did.
My favorite dishes are the grilled avocado and hamachi sashimi, they are absolutely divine.
The puffs at $10.95 were soft, airy, and cheesy, reminding us of the gruyere biscuits served at the Ravenous Pig. The addition of honey butter enhanced their flavor. We could not resist ordering another serving of the trio of grilled avocado halves at $13.95, which were coated in delicious salsa matcha. The hamachi sashimi, priced at $18.95 and placed in a tangy white-soy ponzu sauce, ignited our taste buds with its fiery jalapeño slices. Finishing off the sashimi, I couldn’t help but remark, “That is surprisingly hot,” while also licking my fingers and cleaning the plate.
We were waiting for our drinks and still had not been seated under the aforementioned “YES” sign. However, without any hesitation, I agreed and indulged in their appetizer. I observed that the Cali-inspired cuisine seemed to have a calming effect on people, including ourselves. We took our drinks and savored them on the front patio, feeling the cool breeze of the ceiling fans while keeping an eye on the growing line inside the cookie bar. Interestingly, the restaurant also has a separate cookie bar for walk-in customers, but the same cookies can be ordered from the dessert menu. We couldn’t resist trying them, all while sitting under the glow of the “YES” sign. But before that, we also dug into some more delicious dishes like the wood-grilled artichokes ($16.95).
The three prime beef meatballs, priced at $17.95, received widespread acclaim for their perfectly textured consistency. My kids loved them. The remaining delicious cheesy dream puffs were used to soak up the marinara sauce. The standout dish that captured the essence of California was the butterflied chicken breast paillard, priced at $22.95. The chicken was pounded thin, marinated with herbs and lemon, and grilled over wood fire. Topped with arugula and drizzled with Calabrian chili vinaigrette, this crispy-edged chicken was my husband’s choice. He ordered a second plate of it.
However, the crust on the margherita pizza ($19.95) was also thin, which only received a satisfactory response from this group of pizza connoisseurs. The grouper fish and chips ($35.95), an expensive dish, was almost overshadowed by the fries underneath that were coated in malt salt – a seasoning that added a tangy flavor to the fries without making them soggy. My mom said it was very good, one of the best fish and chips she’s had.
We will definitely be eating here again soon.
